Stupid Food Ideas

Its time for me to renew my subscription to the magazine Super Food Ideas, Australia's most popular monthly recipe magazine. I like it, without it I would never have learnt how to make Honey Jumble biscuits. When I signed up for a subscription the price was $35 for 2 years. Very very cheap. I got about 6 months of magazines for free I think, I'm not sure. It was a bargain anyway.

This week I got a letter from them asking to renew my subscription for 2 years for $79.90 including free delivery. With the cover price of the magazine being $2.75 it doesn't take a genius to work out that to get a new subscription will cost $19.40 more over the 2 years than to buy it myself at the newsagent. It costs 90 cents more per copy received by subscription and while it may conveniently arrive at your door, you miss out on any free samples included in that month's issue.

So I emailed them to find out why because I believe it to be ridiculously overpriced and unfair. Their response - "To continue running a subscription for the Super Food Ideas magazine we did need to increase some of our costs. These costs are used to cover some of the necessary components of a subscription; such as paper costs, printing charges, all costs associated with the administration of the magazine as well as the wrapping and packaging of individual magazines on a monthly basis."

Pfft, I doubt it costs $9.70 per subscription every year to put in 1 sheet of A4 paper with an address on it and then wrap it in plastic.

I will not be renewing my subscription.
